Our view of the service
Highlands Care Ltd is registered to provide personal care to people in the community including in supported living settings. Not everyone using Highlands Care Ltd receives a regulated activity. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal care and hygiene and eating. At the time of our assessment 9 people were receiving the regulated activity of ‘personal care’.
The service was registered with CQC on 7 January 2021, and this was the first assessment. We have rated the service good.
We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.
At the time of our assessment the service was not providing support to people with a learning disability and autistic people. However, we found the provider was meeting the principles of Right support, right care, right culture and staff were appropriately trained.
People were kept safe by staff that had good knowledge of their responsibilities to protect people from harm or abuse. Staff knew the signs to recognise abuse and the procedure to report any concerns. Risks to people were identified, assessed and plans were put in place to ensure risks were minimised and people were kept safe. People received their medicines as prescribed, and the management of medicines was safe. Appropriate recruitment checks were completed and there was enough staff available to meet people’s care and support needs. People were supported to live safely and had support to access health and social care professionals when required. People’s needs were assessed, and support was provided that met their individual requirements.
