Page last updated: 6 November 2025

Use this service to cancel your provider registration with CQC.

This service will cancel your registration completely. Do not use this service if you are continuing to provide regulated activities at any of your locations.

Before you start

To use this service, your provider must be closing down or already closed all its services at all locations.

You must hold one of the following roles:

  • nominated individual at your provider
  • responsible individual
  • main partner

Check if you hold a CQC-registered role

Nominated individual
Check your provider registration certificate. Nominated individuals are listed on your registration.

Main partner
You're the main partner in your partnership if:

  • you're listed as the main contact partner in your provider registration.

  • your name is on the correspondence you receive from us (including formal notices).

Responsible individual

If you registered with CQC as an individual (this is sometimes called a 'sole trader'), you're a responsible individual.

You must also have access to the email registered with us.

This is because we’ll send you an email to:

  • verify your application
  • update you during the application process.

If you cannot access your registered email address contact us.

When you can cancel your registration

You can only cancel your registration 30 days before you stop providing services, or after you've stopped providing services.

Apply to cancel your registration

To complete your application, you will need to tell us:

  • your provider ID and name (You can find this on your registration certificate or your provider profile on our website).
  • what measures you have taken to maintain the care of the people using your services
  • who you have informed of your plans to stop your services

As part of the application process, we’ll send you an email that will ask you to:

  • review the details of your application
  • confirm you want to proceed with the cancellation.

You must respond within 30 days or your application won't be processed and you'll stay registered.

CQC could fine you up to £2,500 if you give false or misleading information.
