University Hospitals Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust was placed into special measures in June 2014.

Local people were fully involved in the development of the trust’s new maternity unit. They met the architect and contractors, looked at the options and made suggestions. ’The new unit is better than we could have hoped for. They really listened to us and our opinions counted.’

The trust followed the parents’ suggestion of also using the bereavement room as a place to stay for families with a terminally ill child or a child receiving special care.

The trust was rated as good in February 2017.
