Quality of care in a place

  • Public

These reports explored how we could encourage improvement in local areas using our inspections alongside the powers we have under section 48 of the Health and Social Care Act to carry out special reviews and investigations.

In these areas, we tested:

  • how we could combine national data and local intelligence to monitor care
  • how we could collaborate with local stakeholders to respond to local issues and priorities
  • how we could adapt our assessment framework – including our five key questions – to care in local areas
  • whether targeted activity under our section 28 powers – such as case tracking and focus groups – could add to what we can understand about an issue or priority from looking at providers alone.

How this workk was used

This feed into our strategy for 2016 to 2021, which set out how we regulate health and social care services as they change to become more joined up and based on people's individual needs.
