Context
When people see that someone like themselves can achieve something positive, it can inspire them to believe that they can too. That's the thinking behind the Wall of FAME (Facilitating Achievement, Motivating Empowerment), launched at Broadmeadow Surgery in February 2025.
The Wall is displayed in the surgery's waiting room, celebrating patients who have made positive changes to improve their health and wellbeing. Whether it's becoming more active, eating more healthily, managing a long-term condition, or building healthier routines. Each story shows that small, consistent changes can make a real difference.
By sharing these individual personal journeys, the Wall encourages others to take the first step towards improving their own health.
Approach
The Wall of FAME was officially launched at a celebration attended by 20 people, including GPs, practice staff, patients and their families. Six patients were recognised for the progress they had made, with 3 attending to share their experiences alongside newly-appointed staff health champions.
The event was about much more than handing out certificates. It celebrated determination, encouraged conversations about health, and showed that everyone has the potential to make positive changes.
Successes
The response was immediate. Patients and staff began asking how they could get involved and learn more.
Everyone who attended the launch rated it 5 out of 5, said they would recommend it to others, and wanted to stay involved. Many said they felt proud to be recognised, inspired by hearing other people's stories, and encouraged by the supportive atmosphere.
One of the biggest successes has been creating a sense of community, where people motivate and learn from one another rather than feeling they have to make changes alone.
Midlands Medical Partnership plans to build on the success of the Wall of FAME by:
- creating community support groups where people can encourage one another
- expanding the Wall to other practice sites
- sharing more patient success stories to inspire others
- making the initiative part of the practice's wider work to help people stay healthy and prevent illness.
The Wall of FAME shows that celebrating everyday achievements can inspire healthier lives, not just for the people on the wall, but for everyone who sees their stories.
