Ambient voice technology in regulatory practice, is a report on a feasibility test carried out by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The project explored how ambient voice technology (AVT) could support regulatory assessments.
The project was funded by the Regulators' Pioneer Fund and ran for 3 months until May 2026. We tested the technology across 3 sectors regulated by CQC:
- primary care and community services
- oral health services
- hospitals
During inspections and assessments of service providers, inspectors used the technology to record interviews. The interviews were then summarised into a structured template. This report explains the projects methodology, findings, benefits and challenges.
