The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published two reports on services provided by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust following an inspection in September.

CQC carried out an unannounced focused inspection of urgent and emergency care services at the University Hospital Aintree and the New Royal Liverpool University Hospital, following a programme of improvement work carried out by the trust in response to concerns raised at the previous inspection.

At that inspection, CQC found concerns around infection prevention and control, people not receiving safe care and treatment, as well as people not being treated with privacy and dignity.

Following this latest inspection, CQC found improvements had been made in urgent and emergency care services at both hospitals, however further work was needed to keep people safe.

As this was a focused inspection, urgent and emergency care services were not re-rated and both services remain rated inadequate overall and for being safe, responsive and well-led. They also remain rated requires improvement for being effective, and caring remains rated good.

The overall ratings for both University Hospital Aintree and New Royal Liverpool University Hospital remains requires improvement.

The overall rating for Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust remains rated as requires improvement.
