The Care Quality Commission has rated the services provided by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust as Good.

A team of inspectors visited the trust January and February 2019. They looked specifically at five core services: community health services for adults, acute wards for adults of working age and psychiatric intensive care units, forensic inpatient or secure wards, mental health crisis services and health-based places of safety, and specialist community mental health services for children and young people. They also looked specifically at management and leadership to answer the key question: Is the trust well led?

The latest inspection rated the trust Good overall. Effective, caring, responsive and well-led services were rated Good. Safe was rated Requires Improvement.

Full reports on each inspection are available at: www.cqc.org.uk/provider/RV9

Inspectors found the trust had a clear vision and strategy of quality and patient safety, staff were involved well in supporting and helping to direct developments. The senior leadership were committed to improvement and delivering safe care. Staff across the trust were seen to treat patients with dignity and respect and knew how to deliver care in support of their patients’ individual needs.

Some outstanding practice was also reported on. Including the collaboration with the Social Mediation and Self-Help (SMASH) programme, which engaged with various local stakeholders and community services to support young people who are at risk at developing mental health problems.

Community services for adults was rated requires improvement which brought the overall rating of community services down to requires improvement. Inspectors reported on some concerns about the consistency of the management and staff not being regularly appraised in their roles. However, the trust had taken on additional community services since the last inspection and some leaders were relatively new in post.

Inspectors did note that staff in the service cared for patients in a compassionate manner. Patient feedback was positive, and they felt involved in their care and treatment decisions.
