Warwickshire care home is rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Attleborough Grange care home, Nuneaton, to be Outstanding overall following an inspection carried out in March.

WCS Care Group Limited runs the service, which is registered to provide care for up to 32 older people, who require personal care and who may be living with dementia. At the time of CQC’s inspection 30 people were living at the home.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care. A full report of the inspection has been published on our website.

Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Attleborough Grange was rated Outstanding overall, Outstanding for being caring and well-led and Good for being safe, effective and responsive.

People using the service and their relatives were delighted with the kindness and thoughtfulness of staff, which they said exceeded their expectations. The service was seen to be ‘people centred’, staff understood their responsibility to protect people from harm and were encouraged and supported to raise concerns with the home’s management.

Acosia Nyanin, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the Central region, said:

“We were impressed with what we found during our inspection of Attleborough Grange. Inspectors were struck by the way that people's right to lead a fulfilling life was enshrined in a ‘charter of rights’ that was displayed in the entrance to the home.

“Staff received training in the provider's values and philosophy - 'play, make their day, be there and choose your attitude'. The management team set an example for all staff to follow in their interactions with people, which set the standard for how those living at the home were cared for and supported.

“People, relatives and visitors from external agencies described the home as having an atmosphere that made them feel as if they had ‘come home’ as soon as they entered the premises.

“Staff understood the risks to people's individual health and wellbeing and these were clearly recorded in people's care plans. The team was attentive to people's appetites, moods and behaviours and they were proactive in implementing individual strategies to minimise people's anxieties.

“The home ensured regular monitoring of the quality of the service, including regular checks of people's care plans, medicines administration and staff practices took place. Accidents, incidents, falls and complaints were also investigated and action was taken to minimise the risks of any re-occurrence. The provider shared their learning with all the homes in the group.

“The home’s philosophy, attention to people’s individual needs and it’s commitment ensuring it monitored the quality of the service it provided meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”
