A care service in Plymouth that provides individualised support to people in the community no matter what their past experiences or complexities has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection in May/June.

Inspectors rated Beyond Limits (Plymouth), in Church Street, Stoke Damarel, Outstanding for being responsive to people’s needs and well-led and Good for being safe, effective and caring.

Beyond Limits provides a supported living service to people living in their own homes and specialises in providing bespoke packages of care for younger adults with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, mental illness or physical disabilities. There were nine people using the service at the time of the inspection.

Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said;

“We found that Beyond Limits works with an ethos that is determined to make a positive difference to people’s lives. The aim is to “wrap the service around people” with their needs being carefully assessed before their service begins."

“The provider has been recognised nationally as demonstrating how good leadership can transform the lives of people who were previously supported in secure settings and we heard stories of how people’s lives have changed, thanks to the service."

“It is clear that the time taken to develop individual care is having a positive effect on the people using this service and their families. I would like to congratulate all the staff for the work that they do in providing an Outstanding service to the people in their care”

Inspectors found people were encouraged by staff to set goals and achieve them rather than simply being told what to do. Examples include finding suitable accommodation and also engaging in activities they enjoyed such as swimming or in one case participating in the special Olympics and mountain boarding. This gave people a sense of community and belonging and allowed them to thrive and make continuous progress as well as feel like independent, valued members of the community who were listened to.
