A care home in Mundesley has been rated Outstanding following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

CQC inspected Munhaven in June 2019. The service, which is run by Norse Care (Services) Limited, provides residential personal and nursing care to 20 people aged 65 and over who are living with dementia.

The inspection found that people using the service benefitted from safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led care. Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Munhaven has been given an overall rating of Outstanding and is rated as Outstanding for whether its service is caring, effective, responsive and well-led. It is rated as Good for whether the service is safe.

Lo-Anne Lewis, CQC Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region, said:

“Our inspection team was very impressed by the level of support offered at Munhaven.

“Since our last inspection in 2016, when the service was rated as Good, the registered manager had continued to drive improvements in the service, promoting and achieving positive outcomes for people.

“Staff ensured people were provided with care that kept them safe and relatives had confidence in staff  to manage potential risks to people using the service.

“Staff training was excellent and leads in designated care areas ensured people continuously received highly personalised standards of care. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.

“People using the service and their relatives told us about, and we saw, staff delivering extremely sensitive and compassionate care. They developed open and trusting relationships with people and their relatives, and this maximised the benefit of care provided.

“People were encouraged to have a voice within the service and to live their lives as independently as possible with dignity.  Every aspect of the service was person-centred and staff were passionate about promoting people's well-being.

“We observed engaging and empowering relationships between staff and those using the service. Staff and the registered manager embraced a culture of placing people at the heart of everything at Munhaven.

“This is why we have rated Munhaven as Outstanding.”
