TThe Care Quality Commission has rated the care being provided at Birkenhead Court, Merseyside to be Outstanding after an inspection in August this year.

The service provides accommodation for persons who require personal care for up to 60 people. At the time of the inspection there were 59 people living in the home. It is the first inspection of the service since Anchor Carehomes Limited took ownership in November last year.

Birkenhead Court was rated Outstanding overall and for effective, responsive and well-well services, and Good for safe and caring services.

A full report of the inspection has been published on the CQC website: www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-3531809455

Debbie Westhead – Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care said:

“It is really pleasing to see that the service has used its previous rating of outstanding, in responsive, as a benchmark for further improvements to be made to the service. This home had some very interesting facilities and activities on offer, including a pub, which helped people regain confidence in performing everyday activities and become independent in the community.

“We found that the high-quality care was driven from management within the service. They had instilled a vision for the staff to properly know the residents so the best possible care could be provided.

“We also saw how staff had been enabled to use technology, tele triage service, to support people with their healthcare needs. This supported people to remain in their familiar surroundings and reduced unnecessary hospital visits.

“There was knowledge and expertise throughout this service. Well done on improving to an Outstanding rating, everyone at the home should be very proud.”
