The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by South East Sector Home Care to be Outstanding following an inspection in August.

The service is provided by Northumberland County Council and is a short term support service which is managed in partnership with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

It provides three services, enablement, early intervention and a bridging service all aimed at supporting people to greater levels of independence following unexpected severe illness, a long term controlled illness, or care planned upon discharge from hospital. The early intervention service aims to support people who are experiencing difficulties and aims to prevent hospital admission.

At the time of the inspection, the service was providing care and support to around 58 people in their own homes.

CQC asks five questions when it inspects. Are services safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led? South East Sector Home Care is rated as Outstanding for being effective, responsive, and well-led, and Good for being safe and caring.

A full report of the inspection has been published on our website.

Debbie Westhead, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in the North, said:

“We found the quality of care provided at South East Sector Home Care in Northumberland to be outstanding."

“It was impressive to see how person centred the service was. People’s individual needs were really taken care of and this bespoke service reflected the changes taking place in their lives, confidence and abilities."

“The integration between social care and healthcare was making a huge difference in people’s lives, preventing avoidable hospital admissions."

“All the staff should be very proud of the care they are providing and I hope other providers look to their example of what outstanding care should look like.”

Some of the findings from the inspection included:

  • Inspectors saw a vibrant, dynamic and creative service with a strong sense of leadership, commitment and drive to deliver a service which improves people’s lives.
  • People were overwhelmingly positive about their experience of care and treatment.
  • Professionals said the service was very responsive to people's needs and flexible in its approach.
