S2. How are risks to people assessed, and their safety monitored and managed so they are supported to stay safe?

Characteristics of services we would rate as requires improvement in this area

There are periods of understaffing or inappropriate skill mix, which are not addressed quickly. Agency, bank and locum staff are not used in a way that ensures people's safety is always protected.

There is a risk that staff may not recognise or respond appropriately to signs of deteriorating health or medical emergencies.

The approach to assessing and managing day-to-day risks to people who use services is sometimes focused on clinical risks and does not take a holistic view of people's needs.
