The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by the Chiddingfold Surgery in Surrey to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in October 2014.

Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all of England’s GP practices are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

Inspectors rated the practice at Chiddingfold, near Godalming, Outstanding for being responsive and well led. A full report of the inspection has been published today

The report highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:

  • The surgery has a highly effective care planning system for patients with long term conditions.
  • There are innovative approaches to encourage patients in vulnerable groups to access care services.
  • The practice takes a proactive approach to managing patient admissions and discharges from hospital.

Ruth Rankine, Deputy Chief Inspector of General Practice, said:

“It is clear that the staff at Chiddingfold surgery go out of their way to provide the best service to their patients – especially in their care of older people, families with children, and those whose circumstances may make them vulnerable.

“As an example – the practice monitors the prevalence of long term conditions across the patient list, to identify people who had not attended for regular reviews, so that they can be recalled.

“They offer longer appointments to frail or elderly patients who require extra time. They have identified innovative ways of promoting health services to hard to reach groups. During a recent measles outbreak, one GP partner visited a local traveller community and spoke with them directly about the benefits of vaccination and the support available to them via the practice.”

Professor Steve Field, Chief Inspector of General Practice, said:

“I am delighted to highlight the exceptional standard of care which is being provided by Chiddingfold Surgery.

“All the staff have demonstrated a real commitment to the people in their care. I have no doubt that they fully deserve to share the accolade of an Outstanding service.”
