Dr Arun Chopra is our Interim Chief Executive
Arun was appointed our first Chief Inspector of Mental Health in 2025. He is committed to supporting mental health services to provide good, safe, person-centred care that helps people to recover.
Prior to joining CQC, Arun was Medical Director of the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland (2020-2024) a statutory organisation that safeguards the rights of people with mental illness, learning disability, dementia and related mental health conditions. Prior to this he worked in NHS consultant psychiatrist roles in general adult community and inpatient settings in England, New Zealand and Scotland.
He combined his clinical work with roles in education, research, governance and representative work for the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is a recipient of the President’s Medal, awarded annually by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to individuals who have made a significant contribution towards improving the lives of people with mental illness.
