All Inspections

10 August 2011

During a routine inspection

People that we spoke to told us their care was of a high standard. One person said 'It's not my place to tell them what to do. The place is well organised and everyone knows what they are doing. They have looked after me very well'. Another person said 'If I had my way I wouldn't be here. But it isn't because of the staff, they are marvellous. The food is lovely too, but I would like to be at home'.

Other people said, 'They are really excellent, all of them'. 'This is my first time of being looked after. People have been very helpful, it's quite nice here, but I would like to go home'.

'Staff are kind and thoughtful, I have no complaints', one person said, who was looking forward to going home the following day. People told us they did not know how to make a complaint, but that they did not need to, and they had someone they could tell if anything concerned them.

Good continuity of service is assured, as general practitioners (GPs) attend their own patients while in hospital. Each of the three Brixham surgeries has a ward round every morning. The service benefits, due to GPs' knowledge of each patient, their home and family. On discharge there is less opportunity for error or failure in communication. Visiting doctors also give support at the MIU as needed.

A grateful MIU patient had left a message saying the staff were 'polite and efficient'.

During this visit we saw that all areas of the hospital were very clean and fresh, and people told us it was always like this.
