All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spoke to eight people receiving care at Paignton Hospital and one relative on our visit.

One person told us they had a smooth transfer to this hospital from the local acute hospital, and that when they arrived the staff were expecting them and knew what they would be needing. They said they had been given good information about the hospital, and kept informed about what would be happening.

The information produced for patients about the hospital was in a rack on the wall by their bed, and people told us they had read it.

One person told us how well their discharge arrangements were going. The OT had already delivered equipment to their home. 'The staff here have been so kind to me, and when I told them, they said I had helped them too'.

'No complaints about the food. There is choice, and I like the traditional food'.

'They treat you with respect, I think it's marvellous'.

'The food is excellent and they ask me what I want. I just can't always manage it all as I don't have much of an appetite'

They said there were sufficient staff, (unlike their experience in a larger hospital 'where you feel like a nuisance'), although 'they were pushed last night when one did not turn up'. Another person said that staff come quickly if they press the call bell.

'All the staff have been very kind. I sometimes wish they weren't so busy, but they always have a smile for me which I appreciate. I don't always know who they all are, but they all know me.'

'I had my injection on time here',

'They combine technical excellence with kindness, and that makes for first class nursing'.

'The standard of cleanliness couldn't be higher, it's spotless'.

'They respect my privacy'.

'Sometimes it is a bit noisy, especially at night'.
