During a routine inspection

People's privacy, dignity and confidentiality were respected. We observed staff treating people with respect, being polite and courteous. People's preferences and medical conditions were taken into account in relation to how care and treatment was delivered. One person told us, 'I have choice of when I get up and when I go to bed.' Another person told us, 'Mum does what she wants when she wants, she is very independent.'

People we spoke with told us they were happy with the treatment and support they received. One person told us, 'I think I am making progress.' Another person told us, 'It is the best possible place for my Mum's needs.' However, we also saw that some people's care plans and documents were not sufficiently detailed and did not cover all aspects of their care requirements. As a result there was a risk of people's needs not being met and people not always having the care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

People who used the service were protected against the risk of abuse. All staff had received training in abuse awareness and protecting children and vulnerable adults. The policies and procedures were available to all staff in relation to safeguarding. The people we spoke with told us they felt safe with the staff.

We found people were supported by sufficient numbers of qualified, skilled and experienced staff which met people's needs. However, members of staff we spoke with told us at times more staff would be a help. For example, support with activities.

There were quality monitoring programmes in place, which included people giving feedback about their care, support and treatment. This provided a good overview of the quality of the service's provided.
