All Inspections

During a routine inspection

During the visit we spoke with one person who used the service and observed the way staff interacted with other people. The person we spoke with told us he received the support he needed and said people were well treated by staff. We observed staff interacting well with people, and providing reassurance in ways that were detailed in people's support plans. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of people's specific communication needs and responded well to questions and requests for assistance.

People were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and support safely and to an appropriate standard.

People who use the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted on. The person we spoke with said they were able to raise concerns with the staff or manager and were confident that action would be taken to address the issue.

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we met some of the people who used the service. We spoke with four members of staff and one person who used the service. We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service because they had complex needs which meant they were not all able to tell us their experiences.

One person we spoke with told us they were happy living at Glenwood and that they were asked for consent before receiving treatment. We saw that most staff communicated well with people who use the service. However, we did observe some poor interactions with people from one member of staff.

Staff were familiar with identifying the potential signs of abuse and had received training in safeguarding. There were sufficient numbers of staff on duty to care for people although at times there were not enough staff qualified to administer medications. Procedures were in place to gain feedback from people who used the service.
