All Inspections

During a routine inspection

74 Central Road has three people living there. Due the nature of their disabilities we were unable to gather their views on the outcomes. People looked happy and relaxed in the presence of staff. The staff told us that the three people who lived in the home had been together for over seventeen years and that two of the people had lived in the same home since they were children.

We looked around the home which was clean, comfortably furnished and free from unpleasant odours. All the bedrooms were single occupancy on the ground floor which meant that people were able to move around the home with little support. There was a shared bathroom which had been adapted to suit the individual's needs. We saw that bedrooms were personalised with books, TV's and pictures.

We spoke with five staff including the manager and support coordinator. We spent time observing how staff interacted and supported people. We saw staff treated people in a sensitive, respectful and professional manner and involved individuals in the running of the home.

During a routine inspection

74 Central Road is a home for people with a learning disability they are registered for three people. During our inspection we spoke with five staff and two people who use the service.

People who lived at 74 Central Road had complex needs and were not able to tell us what they thought about the care and support provided. They were able to tell us and show us through signs and body language they were happy. We spent time in their company in the lounge and kitchen/diner observing the support they received and joining in with their activity. We saw that staff were friendly and respectful and that they were quick to respond if anyone appeared unhappy or distressed. Staff were observed communicating with people in the way that they had chosen and understood.

Two staff told us that they had both worked there for 'Longer than four years and knew the service users well". A newer member of staff said that they 'Loved working at the home" and that "The care given by all staff was what the job was about; ensuring a good quality of life'.
