During a routine inspection

During the visit we spoke with three people who used the service and observed the way staff interacted with people. People told us that staff checked with them before providing any support or care to make sure they were happy with what was planned. People said they were able to say they didn't want care or support at certain times and staff respected this.

We saw that people's medicines were well managed. People received the medicines they had been prescribed and staff kept an accurate record of medicines that were held in the home.

People told us they would speak to staff if they had any concerns and said they were confident that action would be taken to resolve their problem. We saw that there were regular meetings for people who used the service. The meetings included an opportunity for people to raise any concerns or complaints they had. We saw that action had been taken when people had raised concerns.

During a routine inspection

During the visit we spoke with two of the three people who use the service. People told us that staff treated them well and they were supported by staff to make decisions about their care. One person said they were able to choose the activities they took part in. A person told us that they liked a particular singer and listening to their music. We saw that a collection of their music was available to them.

We observed staff providing support to people in a sensitive way that maintained their privacy and dignity. Staff were friendly, respectful and courteous when speaking with people. People said they had a choice of meals and were able to request different food if they wanted to. We observed people requesting different meals at lunchtime.

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered according to their individual care plan. Changes in care needs were identified through regular reviews and actions taken. Arrangements were in place for the management of medicines; however these were not adequate. Staff training and supervision was in place to assist the staff to deliver care and treatment safely. There was an internal audit that looked at the service provision, including health and safety at the home.

People showed us around their home and told us about activities and holidays they had enjoyed and those they have planned for this year.

We spoke with staff who said they enjoyed working at the home and had sufficient time to do all that was required and to spend time with in house and communal activities. Staff stated that the manager listened to their suggestions.

We spoke to the manager who has been the homes registered manager for many years and is clear about her role and how she can ensure people's needs are met.

We spoke with other professionals who have contact with the home. They were positive about the home and stated that the home contacts them appropriately and follows advice. These professionals said that health and care needs were met by the home.
