During an inspection in response to concerns

This inspection was to the older people wards of Camden and Leyton. Since April 2014 the wards have merged into one ward, with a shared staff team to support the 22 people who use the service. This is called Holbrook Ward.

Throughout the inspection we spoke with people who use the service and their relatives/representatives. We also spoke with numerous staff of different disciplines which included the ward matron, nurses, healthcare assistants, the ward consultant and occupational therapy staff.

The staff demonstrated a clear understanding of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding people from abuse.

At the time of the inspection there were sufficient numbers of staff on duty to support people with their needs.

Staff received support and training to ensure they could meet the needs of the people who use the service.

However, we found that people were not protected from unsafe care, as the service did not carry out appropriate risk assessments and develop risk management plans to support people with their needs. This put the person and others at risk of inappropriate care and risks presented by others.
