During a routine inspection

People told us they thought the care on Brookview and Riverside wards was good and they felt they had improved since being on the wards. One person said, 'Since I've been here they have changed my medication and I feel a lot better.' People on both Brookview and Riverside wards told us they had a say in how their care was provided and were given choices about their daily routine. People on both wards told us they found the staff supportive and helpful.

During a themed inspection looking at Learning Disability Services

There were three patients at Vale Assessment and Treatment Unit when we visited. Patients did not always want to be admitted to the unit and were often detained under the Mental Health Act so that they could receive appropriate care and treatment.

We met all three patients and spoke to two of them in more depth to get their views of the service. One patient told us they 'sometimes' felt safe in the Vale Unit. The other patient said they liked members of staff. Both patients told us about some of the activities they enjoyed doing, though one patient said they were sometimes bored.

We found that patients generally became more accepting of care and treatment during their stay and then were usually happier and more settled.
