All Inspections

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

At the inspection undertaken in January 2013 we saw that an interview room used by mental health nurses did not have an alarm for staff to summon assistance if this was required. Staff told us that they did not feel safe using this room. The provider commissioned a contractor to install a panic alarm and we saw documentation which confirmed that this had been undertaken on 11th July 2013.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to seven people who had attended the health care centre for appointments with the GP or a primary care nurse and/or a mental health nurse. We also spoke to two nursing staff and to two managers of the health centre.

People gave generally positive comments about the service they received. One person was not satisfied with the service he received. One person said he received very good care regarding the management of diabetes. Three people said they received help with mental health needs. One person felt his mental health assessment appointment 'lacked a human touch.' The two other people said they received ongoing support with mental health needs which they found helpful. Both these people said they were treated with respect and that staff were supportive. People said they had opportunities to discuss their needs, and, that staff provided advice, guidance and treatment.

We found that people had access to health services at short notice and on a planned appointment basis. One person was not satisfied with this and said he had to wait between two and four weeks to see a GP.

We found the service had generally well maintained premises with a programme for improvements. There was no alarm call point in one of the room used to see people.

People said they knew how to make a complaint and one person said his complaint was dealt with effectively. We saw complaints were monitored and responded to.
