During a themed inspection looking at Domiciliary Care Services

This was an unannounced inspection. The service did not know we were visiting. We looked through care records and spoke with five people to gains their views about the care they were receiving. We also spoke with four care workers about their training and the support and supervision they received to undertake their role.

People told us that staff from the agency visited them to discuss their needs before their service started. People felt they had all the information they needed to be clear about the service they would receive.

People's needs were assessed and plans of care were completed although some of these lacked detail and specific information about how people wanted their care providing.

People were happy with their care and said that care workers were polite and respected their privacy and dignity. Most people said they had regular care workers that knew their needs. Some people were less happy with the care at the weekends as they did not always have regular care workers and the times of care could vary.

Most people said that they felt that care workers were suitably trained to provide their care. The change in the agency's provider had led to changes in staffing and the agency was in the process of undertaking an analysis of all care workers' training and knowledge and had a plan in place to make sure that they all had the necessary skills to undertake their role.

People said they were asked for their views about the care they received and we saw that the agency completed regular reviews to monitor that people continued to receive the correct level and type of support.
