During a routine inspection
Records confirmed that the service had assessed people's needs and identified and addressed any risks. For example, plans were in place to ensure people used public transport safely. Meetings took place with people and their relatives to review the support provided. If required, the service was changed to ensure it effectively met the person's needs. A relative said "the service is flexible and varies a lot which is what we want."
There were arrangements in place to ensure the provider was well informed about the quality of the service. She had regular meetings with staff and reviewed records of the support people received. In addition, she undertook 'Spot checks' whilst people were being supported to undertake activities. A relative said "I have had no problems, but if I did I am sure they would listen and do something about it."
Staff had received training in safeguarding vulnerable adults from abuse and neglect. People's relatives said they considered staff to be trustworthy, reliable and experienced. However, we found that the provider's staff selection procedures did not meet the required standard. For example, references had not been obtained. This put people at risk of receiving support from staff who were not of good character. We have asked the provider to improve their recruitment arrangements.
