During a routine inspection

People who were supported by Advantage Healthcare Tees Valley received care that was tailored to meet their needs. Staff received specialist training to make sure they had the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of people with often complex physical and mental health conditions.

There were clear lines of communication between health care providers to make sure that people's care was coordinated and met their needs safely and appropriately.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had systems in place to manage the risks of abuse. Staff had undergone safeguarding training and were aware of their responsibilities if they were concerned about abuse. Managers took appropriate action when allegations of abuse were made.

Staff received frequent supervision sessions and were able to access training as and when they needed to. All staff were up to date with their relevant training needs and staff felt supported to carry out their role.

The service had systems in place to monitor the quality of care people received and regularly contacted people who used the service or their relative to confirm their satisfaction with the care delivered. Where incidents took place, they service took action and learned lessons to ensure the risk of them being repeated were minimised.

During a routine inspection

People who used Advantage Healthcare were supported by staff that understood their needs and had received specialised training to meet them. Risk assessments had taken place and were reviewed regularly to ensure that the support being delivered remained appropriate.

We spoke with the relatives of two people supported by the service. They told us that staff worked in a way that respected people and preserved their dignity. Care plans reflected people's likes and dislikes and provided information about they way they preferred their care to be delivered.

When specialist equipment was being used we found that staff had received appropriate training in its use and were aware of their responsibilities regarding the suitability of equipment. Thus people were protected from the use of dangerous equipment by Advantage Healthcare staff.

The service had a robust recruitment process in place which ensured that staff were eligible to work in the UK and had the skills and knowledge they needed to fulfil their role. Pre employment checks had been carried out and therefore staff employed were suitable to work with vulnerable adults and children.

There was a complaints process in place and the people we spoke with told us that whenever they had any concerns they were dealt with in an appropriate manner. Where investigations needed to take place these were done in a timely manner. If further action was required, there was evidence that this took place.
