On the day of our visit to Victoria House Surgery we met with one of the GP partners, the practice manager and the dispensary manager. We spoke with two patients on the day and with five patients by phone on the day after our visit. We also spoke with four members of staff.Patients were given options for their treatment and were involved in planning their care. A patient told us 'there's lots of options we've spoken about for my treatment and I've been involved in the decisions'.
Patients had confidence that their care and treatment was well recorded. One patient said 'I have seen two new young doctors recently. My history must be good because they knew every detail'.
Patients were protected from the risks associated with medicines. Medicine reviews were carried out in accordance with current good practice guidelines.
Staff received training appropriate to their roles and responsibilities. We saw that practice nurses involved in the care of patients with diabetes had completed training courses in diabetes management.
Patients views were sought and acted upon. The practice conducted annual patient surveys and was in the process of establishing a patient participation group.
Some records in relation to staff training and the management of the service were not kept or were not up to date. Evidence of training that staff told us they had completed was not held on file.
