During an inspection looking at part of the service

At out inspection in December 2013 we found shortfalls in fire safety of the premises. Issues had been identified at an external inspection carried out in 2011 and these had not been rectified. We also found that fire drills had not taken place and there was no nominated person to supervise fire evacuation procedures. Staff had not received up to date training in fire safety.

We carried out this announced inspection and found the provider had taken action to ensure that the premises were safe and people were protected against the risk of fire.

12 December 2013

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke with four people regarding their experience of the service and their involvement in treatment planning. Treatment plans were provided which included information about the course of recommended treatment. Treatment plans viewed were all signed by the patient consenting to the treatment plan.

We viewed five treatment plans. We found that treatments were explained and the costs were made clear. People we spoke with confirmed that information about their treatment and the available options had been given to them. People said that appointments could be made easily and the staff were friendly and professional.

The people who used the service were not protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises as appropriate measures had not been put in place to ensure they were safe.

We saw that the practice was organised and that staff had a good understanding of infection control procedures. We found that there were arrangements in place to ensure that equipment was kept clean and ready for use.

There were arrangements for monitoring the quality of the service and people who used the practice were encouraged to provide feedback about the care and treatment they received. This meant that the provider actively encouraged feedback and used it to influence the way treatment was provided.
