During an inspection in response to concerns

We made this visit to follow up on concerns brought to our attention about the safety and welfare of people living at Gillott Road.

We met and talked with the two people who were living in the home. One person was able to speak with us, and told us they were satisfied with the service they were receiving. Both people had been supported with personal hygiene, and were comfortably dressed. We found the home was warm, and at the time of our visit there was an adequate amount of food and drink, medicine and staff on duty within the home.

During our visit we identified concerns with the way people were being charged by the registered provider for the service they were receiving. People had not been informed about how much, when or how they were to pay.

We found that the registered provider had reported alleged safeguarding incidents promptly, however we did not find that the registered provider had been proactive in protecting people from the risks of abuse.

We found the number of staff on duty was adequate at the time of our inspection. We did not find that robust checks had been made on staff before they were offered a post within the home. The skills of staff did not reflect the needs of people in the home.

We looked at how the registered provider checked on the quality and safety of the service. The systems in place were not effective, and the provider had not ensured that risks to people's safety and welfare had been identified or acted upon.
