During a routine inspection

Some of the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were unable to tell us their views. Because of this we used a number of different methods to help us understand their experiences.

Relatives we spoke with made positive comments about 247 Community Support. One relative told us 'I'm overwhelmed.' Another told us 'It's just brilliant.'

We found that the consent of people using the service was obtained and that people received the care and support that they needed. The service provided safe and appropriate care because individual needs were established before people started using the service. A relative told us 'I am consulted about everything.' Another relative told us 'They seem to be excellent in what they are doing.'

The service had an effective recruitment and selection procedure in place and carried out relevant checks when recruiting staff.

The manager had systems in place to regularly check the quality of the care and to deal with comments and complaints.

During a routine inspection

Some of the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were unable to tell us their views because of this we used a number of different methods to help us understand their experiences.

With advance agreement we contacted and spoke to the representatives of three people who used the service. People expressed a high degree of satisfaction with the agency. One person said the service was 'brilliant', the staff were 'lovely and like family' to them, 'caring' and they always put their relative first. Another person said they were 'happy' with the service and they 'can talk to staff easily, they do their best to put things right, they are very understanding'. Another said the staff 'understand people's needs', are 'very thorough' and do a 'good job' and they look after people 'like they are their own'.

People spoke very highly of their relative's care workers, they told us how people were taken out to the theatre by staff, ten pin bowling and how they are accompanied to the local social club. The staff involved people in activities at home, such as monopoly, baking and cooking and did gardening and took people out shopping. People told us staff always try to promote service user's independence by prompting and encouraging people to do things for themselves. One person told us how their son went away for a long weekend break with his carers to an activity centre for disabled people and had such a good time he did not want to come home.
