During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences.

We found that people's privacy and dignity were respected. The staff used various communication methods to consult with and involve people in their care and independent advocates were involved where appropriate.

We saw that people's needs were assessed and their care was delivered in a planned way by taking account of people's preferences and balancing risks with people's rights. People were supported to be as independent as possible in the use of community leisure facilities and health services.

We saw people had spacious accommodation suitable for their needs. However, the maintenance arrangements did not fully ensure people's safety.

We were told and saw that staff received appropriate training to support and care for people. Regular staff supervision and appraisal was evident. However, staff training in emergency fire procedures was not up to date for all staff.

We found the provider had a complaints system and information about this had been adapted to meet the individual needs of people living at Edwin Grove.
