During a routine inspection

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulated activity at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a registered manager on our system at the time. The service was being managed by a person who had previously been the registered manager. We were told that the provider was in the process of appointing an applicant to become the registered manager.

We spoke to four people who use the service, one relative and four members of staff. We reviewed a range of documents including care plans and staff files.

People told us their privacy, dignity and independence were supported by the service. A carer told us 'The client needs to be happy with you.'

A person who uses the service told us that their carer 'does engage' and 'checks things I might have forgotten about'. Another person told us that the provider's support helped them 'To have a better life.'

People we spoke to said that the provider's service supported their safety.

The provider had an effective system for assessing and monitoring service quality.

A person described the provider as a 'marvellous company'.

We found that the service protected people and care was delivered safely. People we spoke with said they felt safe when staff were with them. We saw records of incidents and accidents that had occurred. Staff we spoke with said they would report any concerns to the manager.

People were supported by experienced and skilled staff. Staff received a four day induction course. One member of staff told us the induction was 'very thorough". The service had introduced an accredited dementia training course for staff.

Staff were supported to deliver good care. One staff member said 'staff are all very approachable, I feel like I can speak to anyone'. We saw detailed records of regular supervision meetings in staff files.

People we spoke with had no complaints. One person told us "if I had a complaint I would call the manager". One person we spoke with said they had made a complaint and were 'very satisfied with the way it was resolved'. We saw evidence that complaints had been dealt with in line with the complaints procedure.
