We visited the service on 21 May 2013 and spoke with people who used the service by telephone on 23 May 2013. We spoke with seven people and the relative of one person who used the service. They all told us that they were involved in discussions of what care they needed as well as when and how that care was to be provided. They told us that they were very happy with the care that was provided. One person told us, "The girls who come in are very nice. They know who I am and are always polite and helpful." We saw that care plans were detailed and person centred. However a revised care package was put in place for a person returning to the service but there had been no assessment meeting held to determine the person's needs at that time. In another care plan the detailed assessment of need had not been completed and there was no evidence that the care plan had been reviewed or updated for over 12 months.
All the people we spoke with told us that they felt safe with the care workers who provided their care and that they trusted the care workers with their money and possessions.
New staff members had started work only after a full and satisfactory criminal records check had been received.
People told us that they were very satisfied with the quality of the care provided by the service. One person told us they had "...absolutely no complaints whatsoever..." The manager told us that unannounced spot checks were undertaken for all care workers.
