During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with three people who currently used the service. They all said that they were happy with the care and support they received. One person said "The staff are caring, reliable, honest and professional in their role. My experience is that this agency is one of the best". Another person said, "My son receives a good standard of care and support. The staff are trained and skilled. I have no concerns."

We found that the agency was meeting the standards we had inspected. Staff had received training in safeguarding people and they were aware of their responsibilities to report any allegations of abuse. Staff had also completed an induction programme and received mandatory and other training relevant to their role. This meant that staff were trained for the work they did so that people's needs were being met appropriately.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people who had used the service and some of their relatives via the telephone. The majority of people we spoke with said that they were happy with the care and support they had received from the agency. One person said 'We were lucky. We had one carer who visited. The service was good and the staff were caring.' Another person said 'Staff were always late and they had to travel a long way. This did not help'. People said that their privacy and dignity had been respected and that they felt their care needs were being met.

We found that the provider had not ensured that the staff had access to the Hertfordshire safeguarding adults from abuse procedure and that they did not received the required training for the work they did. The staff had not received formal supervision and their work was not appraised. The provider had a system in place for assessing and monitoring the quality of service.
