All Inspections

17 December 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with eight people who use the service, or their relatives, six care staff and we looked at four care plans.

We spoke with a family member of a person using the service. Their relative lacked capacity to consent to their care and decisions about care were being made by the relative. We did not see that an assessment of the person's mental capacity had been conducted. We saw no records that best interest meetings had taken place in respect of the person's care.

People were positive about the care they received. One person said that the care was 'absolutely brilliant' and another said 'I get first class treatment.'

We asked care staff about the term safeguarding. Four care staff were able to describe the behaviours which constituted abuse and understood their responsibility to report it.

We saw from training records that the majority of care staff had received training in key areas such as moving and handling, infection control, medication, health and safety and food hygiene.

We reviewed the results of the last customer satisfaction survey which was carried out in February 2013. People were asked about aspects of care. Responses were positive and included comments such as 'I am very pleased with the service,' and 'The carers are always pleasant and helpful.' Actions had been taken to address any concerns raised; these included ensuring that people who used the service were aware of the complaints policy.
