All Inspections

24 January 2014

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection the service was providing personal care to 17 people. We spoke with three people who use the service and four of the 23 members of care staff.

People's privacy, dignity and independence were respected. People we spoke with confirmed staff did things the way they liked and always listened to them when providing their care.

People we spoke with told us they felt their needs were being met and their care was delivered in the way they preferred. One person told us: "I have the help I need, they do things the way I like."

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. People who use the service told us they felt safe with the staff and confirmed they would talk with the manager, or another staff member, if they had any concerns.

We found suitable arrangements were not in place to ensure that staff providing personal care were appropriately supported in relation to their responsibilities. Staff had not received training, supervision and appraisal to enable them to deliver care and treatment to people safely and to an appropriate standard.

People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were maintained.

5 March 2013

During a routine inspection

On the day of our inspection there were 14 people living at Beeches Manor and receiving a service from Housing 21.

People we spoke with felt the staff always respected their privacy and dignity and helped them to remain as independent as possible. One person told us "they know I forget things. They write me notes to help me remember."

People told us they felt their needs were being met and their care was delivered in the way they preferred. One person told us "I do most things for myself, sometimes they remind me." Another person told us "staff always help me whenever I ask." People told us they felt safe with the staff and said they would tell the manager, or another staff member, if they had any concerns.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place and appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

People who use the service knew who to speak to if they had any concerns. One person commented "I wouldn't hesitate to complain but have had no reason to." Another person said "I have no complaints, everyone is very kind."

We found the provider met the outcomes we inspected and had systems in place to monitor their own compliance.
