During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our last visit in April 2103 we found care and treatment was not always planned and delivered in a way that ensured people's safety and welfare. Some care plans lacked information about how care should be provided or equipment people needed to reduce their risk of falling.

On this occasion, we found care plans contained detailed information about how care should be provided and how people's needs should be met.

We looked at care plans and associated records of care for three of the nine people receiving care and support. The plans were detailed and provided clear guidance to staff. We spoke with the provider and two members of staff. They told us plans were user friendly and contained sufficient information. One said, 'They describe exactly what to do'.

We spoke with three people using the service who said they received the care and support they wanted and that it met their needs. One person told us they would give the service a rating of "10 out of 10". Another said of the staff, "They are absolutely brilliant'.

People's needs were known and met.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three of the nine people who use the service. They told us they were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment. They said staff treated them with respect, were 'always polite' and arrived on time.

We spoke with the manager and three members of staff who showed a good understanding of people's needs. People told us their needs were met. One person said, 'Anything we want done, they'll do it'. Another said, 'They do exactly what it says on the tin'.

Care was not always delivered in a way that ensured people's safety. There were no records showing a person's skin was being monitored, as required by their care plan, and a care worker described an unsafe method of lifting used to help one person out of a chair.

The provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. They had responded appropriately to an allegation of abuse.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place. We looked at four staff files and saw appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive. People told us they had regular contact with the provider and were often asked for their views. Changes had been made as a result.
