During a routine inspection

Our observations showed us that people were only provided with care and support that they had agreed to. People were made aware of the costs associated with their care before they started to use the service.

Our review of four out of 15 people's plans of care demonstrated to us that people's care and support information was detailed, person centred and accurate. Staff we observed supporting people knew the person well and were able to provide the support the person needed.

One person we spoke with said, "The staff are all very nice. I can honestly say that they respect my dignity every time they visit me."

We checked a sample of people's medicines administration records (MARs). We found that these contained explanations where people had refused their medication and the reason for this. Staff records we reviewed showed us that staff were trained in the safe administration of people's medicines.

The provider completed audits of people's plans of care and identified areas for improvement and where changes to people's care had been made as result of an incident such as a fall. The results of the latest 2013 customer satisfaction survey showed us that people were satisfied with the quality of care they received.

During a routine inspection

During our visit on 08 October 2012 we found that people who used the service were involved in every stage of their care and that Axiom Crossroads Care kept them informed of any changes. People's health conditions were monitored including specialist needs such as diabetic care. The manager told us that the service only provided care to people where it was sure that the person's needs could be met.

One person told us "I identified my care needs and how they should be met with help and support from the manager."

We found that people were protected from abuse because the agency had up-to-date safeguarding information and reporting procedures and took appropriate steps to prevent reoccurrence.

We looked at staff's recruitment files and found that all pre employment checks had been completed prior to them starting work with vulnerable people.

We reviewed the quality assurance policy that the agency worked to and found that it provided the means to gather information that the agency could use to maintain and improve the service. The provider used differing methods such as verbal contact and through anonymised systems to gather information to assess the quality of the service being provided.
