During a routine inspection

Some of the people receiving care from Walsingham Supported Living had complex needs and were unable to verbally communicate their views and experiences to us. We were able to observe people's experiences and their interactions with each other and the staff. We saw that staff treated people with dignity and respect. Some of the people were able to talk with us, and share some of their experiences. One person told us, "The staff are good and we know them all." They also said, “I have been on holiday to Scarborough and Blackpool this year and we are going to Euro Disney at the end of August.”

We found that people had their needs assessed and that care plans were in place. People’s care was delivered in accordance with their individual plans. People were supported to participate in lots of activities including attending college and day centres.

People were provided with a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink.

We saw that people lived in safe, accessible surroundings that promoted their wellbeing.

We found there was a recruitment procedure in place and appropriate checks were carried out on staff before they started work.

There was a complaints procedure in place and this was accessible to people.

We found that records within the service were accurate, reviewed regularly and easily accessible to staff, thus ensuring that people received appropriate care and support.

During a routine inspection

We saw people who used the service were involved in the running of the service and were given the opportunity to express their opinions and voice concerns.

People were encouraged to discuss their needs and the assistance they wanted. Where people were at risk, there were assessments which described the actions staff were to take to reduce the possibility of harm.

We saw staff who worked for the company were given appropriate training for their roles. Staff had received training in first aid, health and safety, food hygiene, equality and diversity and handling medication. We saw all staff were participating in NVQ or had already achieved NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.

We saw care plans and risk assessments were reviewed regularly with individual assessments being carried out on risk areas cooking, going out alone and personal care. Care plans in the homes where people lived were up to date and comprehensive however the records held in the company's office did not hold the up to date information and it was therefore difficult to establish what care was required for each individual.
