During a routine inspection

During our inspection visit we spoke with four people who used the service. We spoke with the manager, administrator and one senior support worker we met at the office and four support workers by telephone.

We looked at three people's care records and three staff files. We also looked at documents relating to the organisation and management of the service.

People told us they were happy with the care they received from support workers. One person said, 'The carer's are very good.' Another said, 'They have been amazing in every aspect.'

People told us support workers helped them lead more independent lives. One person said, with the help they received they were, 'Doing more things, getting out more and getting more confident'.

People told us about ways support workers and office staff encouraged their involvement in planning their own care and their participation in the development of the service. One person said that their request to have support from female workers was discussed and agreed. Another told us about their involvement in interviewing candidates for jobs as support workers.

We saw from care records that people's support was well planned and organised. People told us they felt safe with support workers and knew how and who to complain to if they were unsatisfied with any aspect of their care.

Staff told us about how they worked to ensure people's safety and wellbeing. We noted from records staff were trained to identify and report concerns about people's safety.

Staff said they enjoyed working for the service and felt well supported by the manager. We saw from records staff received the training they needed to provide safe and effective care.

We looked at records which showed the service was safely and effectively managed. We saw the manager and staff reviewed their work so they could learn and improve. We noted they sought the views of people who used the service when reviewing how well they organised and carried out their work.
