All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Prior to our visit we reviewed all the information we had received from the provider. During the visit we spoke with three people who used the service and three relatives and asked them for their views. We also spoke with three care workers, a consultant, the assistant manager, manager and the provider. We looked at some of the records held in the service including the care files for five people.

We found improvements were being made to the planning of people's care and support to better meet their needs. A person who used the service told us, 'It is fine when my regular carer comes, otherwise it is a bit erratic.'

We found there were not suitable arrangements in place to manage people's medication and ensure they received any medication they needed. Information about the medication people took copied onto medicine administration records (MAR sheets) was not always clearly written or written correctly.

We found the provider had employed a consultant who had improved their recruitment process and was making further improvements to how they assessed and monitored the quality of the service. A person told us, 'I had one carer who was slovenly and left things lying around, but they have left. The rest have all been very good.' Another person told us, 'Things are acted upon' A relative told us, 'We can always ring the manager, the main issue for us is having the same carers.'

During a routine inspection

Prior to our visit we reviewed all the information we had received from the provider. We visited the office and spoke with the provider, the acting manager and three care workers. We looked at some of the records including the files for three people who used the service. We also spoke with two relatives and one person who used the service.

We looked to see how people gave their consent to care and treatment. We saw information in people's care files that showed they had given their consent. A person told us, I have got a folder. I didn't sign it but I did read through and agreed with everything they've written.'

We looked at the care and welfare people received. People received care and support as described in their plan of care. A person told us, 'They look after me pretty well. It means I can carry on my normal way of living.'

We looked at how people were safeguarded from abuse. Care workers were aware of the types of abuse that people could face and knew how to report any concerns that arose. One person told us, 'I feel safe when they (care workers) are here.

We looked to see whether there was sufficient and suitable staff available. Care workers told us there were sufficient care workers employed so they could provide the care and support people required.

We looked at how people could make a complaint if they needed to. There was a complaints procedure in place. A person told us, 'I wouldn't want to complain I could talk over any problems.'
