All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service at SMART Sands Court. One person told us 'I am totally treated with respect here; it is the best service I come across.' Another person said 'I feel treated like a proper adult; they listen to what I say and work with me on my thoughts and feelings. They give me a different way of looking at things.' Another person told us 'They stick with me here. I found it difficult asking for help, but getting away from drinking has helped me see things much more clearly'.

We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

We saw four case files, three electronically and one which was printed. These files showed us that the assessments completed had been comprehensive and the care plans were relevant to the needs of the people using the service.

We saw that care, treatment and support was delivered in a coordinated way by professionals who shared up to date information in a way which was relevant to people's needs.

We found that staff had the right qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience to deliver the service.

We saw that the service had good systems to monitor and evaluate the care, treatment and support provided.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with felt very well supported by SMART Sands Court. One person told us that "staff always make time for me and they never miss appointments." Another person told us "the staff made me change my thinking patterns about certain things." People told us they trusted the staff working for the service and felt comfortable discussing difficult issues with their key worker. They also said they were confident they could raise any concerns with the service, if they had to.

We found there were significant improvements from our last inspection. There was an increase in staff numbers and staffing arrangements were regularly reviewed. Staff told us they were busy but they were not overwhelmed by the volume of work they were expected to do. People using the service said staff never missed appointments and group facilitators were always present at group sessions. There were arrangements in place to ensure staff had mandatory training and regularly received feedback on their performance. Staff felt well supported.

People were supported in their recovery by a service which helped them to understand and recover from their addictions. The service also provided advice and guidance about housing, employment, and other social support. People using the service felt the provision of all these services under one roof helped them in their recovery.
