All Inspections

3 February 2014

During a routine inspection

We visited four people who received a service, in their flats, and saw one person in the office. We looked at care plans kept in the person's own home and in the office. We read other records as necessary. We met with five staff members and one health professional.

People who used the service told us they received good care. One person said 'the help is really good I can't fault it' and another told us 'it couldn't be better.'

We saw there were up to date care plans which contained assessments of needs and details of how each person wished for them to be met. People told us their consent was obtained for the support which was provided.

People were assisted to have their medicines as prescribed, if they were unable to do this themselves. Records of the assistance required and medicines administered were kept.

Staff were recruited following a robust recruitment procedure. Staff told us they were well trained and supported to do their jobs and we saw records of this.

There were systems in place to ensure the quality of the service provided was monitored on a regular basis. Procedures were in place where improvements had been identified as necessary.

During a routine inspection

The care team manager told us that the service promotes independent living. They told us "staff are on site 24 hours a day which means that a more flexible approach can be used and people can get help when they need it".

We spoke with five people who live within the complex and one person whose husband received regular care from the agency. All told us that they felt safe within the complex and were happy with the quality of service that they received.

We interviewed five staff who told us that they felt supported by the care team manager with one of them telling us that "this is definitely one of the better homes that I have worked in."

We saw that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care packages.

People we spoke to told us that the staff were polite, friendly and helpful and that their privacy was respected whilst they were supported to maintain their independence.

People using the service were protected from abuse as they were supported by a staff team who had appropriate knowledge and training on safeguarding adults. People told us if they had any concerns they would report them to the care team manager.

There were processes in place to monitor the quality of service being provided and we saw that people were involved through questionnaires and spot checks.
