During a routine inspection

People told us that they were consulted by staff and asked for permission before care was carried out. People said that staff discussed the risks and benefits of care and treatment with them in ways that they could understand.

People said that staff understood their individual needs and preferences. People told us that they had been involved in planning their care and setting goals. People spoke very highly of the staff and the services provided.

People received safe and coordinated care when they moved between services, because the provider worked cooperatively with others involved in peoples care.

The provider had robust systems in place for the safe handling and management of medication. This ensured that people received the correct medication at times they needed them.

The service had a wide ranging and very effective quality assurance system. The system took account of people's views, any complaints or comments made, and evaluated the quality and safety of the care people received.

The service had an effective complaint policy and procedure, which invited people to make complaints without fear of discrimination. The service demonstrated that it valued people's views and learnt from complaints.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with nine people using the service across all three units. We also spoke with staff and members of the management team.

People told us that 'the staff are very good', 'The staff are really good here, they have been very supportive' another said 'They are very pleasant'.

One person commented 'It's quite a pleasant place to be, they've not badgered me' Another said with a smile 'They bully us regularly in a friendly way'.

People told us that staff assisted them with their personal care needs in a sensitive and discreet way.

We saw that care was given by staff who maintained people's privacy and dignity.

People told us they understood and had been involved in setting goals for their rehabilitation. People described the support and care the therapists were providing for them in order to regain independence to return home.

One person told us 'I have been here five weeks, and I am definitely seeing that I am making progress'.

People told us that as well as their individual rehabilitation plans staff also ran regular activities such as bingo, or word games.

We found that people had their needs fully assessed and risks were identified and managed effectively.

There were systems in place to measure the quality of the service.
