All Inspections

9 December 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke with three people who used the service about their experiences of the support they had received. We also spoke with two relatives, four of the staff and the registered manager. All of the people we spoke with who used the service spoke positively about the care they received. One person told us that: 'The care is very good. Top marks'. All of the people we spoke with told us that the staff who supported them understood their care needs.

We found that people had the choices they made respected.

There were systems in place to ensure that the correct medicines had been taken and that any problems or concerns were identified and actioned immediately.

Staff had knowledge about safeguarding. The people we spoke with all felt that they were kept safe from abuse.

Staff employed at the service had access to further training and told us that they felt supported by their peers and the registered manager. People that used the service felt staff had the knowledge and skills to support them safely. One person told us: 'All the staff seem to understand everything, without exception'.

During a routine inspection

We inspected the agency office and spoke with three of the people who received personal care from the agency at Arch Hill Court. We did this in a communal area. We spoke on the telephone with the relatives of three people who received personal care from the agency in their own homes. We also spoke with four members of staff who provided care to people. We found that people were able to express their views and had been involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

People were complimentary about the care and support that they received. One person told us, 'It's a wonderful service, they're very caring.' Another person said, 'I couldn't live here without them.' One of the relatives we spoke with told us, 'I've no complaints ' I'd recommend them.' This meant that people felt the agency was meeting their individual needs.

We found that people who used the agency were protected from the risk of abuse.

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

The provider had systems in place to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.
