All Inspections

7 January 2014

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection there was only one person supported by the service. They told us they were happy with the service they received and commented, 'The support is going well. I am gaining more confidence each week'.

We found there were processes in place to obtain agreement from people or their representative about how identified needs should be met.

We reviewed the care records held for the person who was using the service at the time of our visit. We saw support plans were personalised and based on an assessment of the person's needs.

At the time of our visit staff were not required to provide assistance to people in the community in relation to the administration of medication. We found evidence there were effective systems in place for the safe administration of medicines should people require support in this area.

We saw evidence there were effective recruitment procedures in place. These should help to ensure people who used the service were protected from unsuitable staff.

We found suitable arrangements were in place to manage an effective process for identifying, receiving and handling complaints for people who received a service from Blue Tin Roof.

During a routine inspection

At the time of this inspection visit, there were no people being supported by My Life Choice in their own homes. Therefore we were unable to seek peoples' views to evaluate their experience of the service.

The outcome areas we looked at showed there were some systems and processes in place which would provide people with effective care and support.

Including:

Involving people in their care, support and daily living activities.

Promoting independence and respecting people as individuals.

Finding out about peoples' needs and planning for their care and support.

Ensuring people are safe and free from abuse.

Asking people about their experiences and checking quality of the service.

However, we found some progress was needed with staff training and development to make sure people receive safe and effective care.
