During an inspection looking at part of the service

People who used the service had complex needs and were not able to tell us about their life at the home. We used a number of different methods to help us understand their experiences. These included looking at records, talking to staff and observing care practices. We also received feedback from two relatives of people who lived at the home.

The relatives we spoke with were happy with the care and support provided by the home. One relative said it was "Absolutely brilliant" and they "Believe the care has been wonderful" They added it was "Managed magnificently". Another relative commented they were "Delighted" and "Staff are excellent".

We found that people received care that met their needs and protected their rights. Staff were aware of how to support each person. They treated people with courtesy and respect.

People were protected against the risks associated with medicines because there were robust systems in place to administer medication safely. Medicines were stored securely and records were well maintained.

We found that staff got the training they needed to carry out their roles effectively. Staff told us that they felt supported and that there was a "Good team spirit".

There were effective systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service that people received. The provider carried out regular audits to make sure that any issues were identified and action taken to make improvements.

During an inspection in response to concerns

Because the people using the service had complex needs they were not all able to tell us their experiences. We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service. These included looking at records, talking to staff and observing care.

One person told us that they enjoyed living at Wisteria Lodge and that they were well looked after. Family members we spoke with were complimentary about the care provided. One said 'it's a brilliant place' and it's the first time their relative has been to a place they called 'home'. Another family member said it was 'fantastic' and that they were always kept informed of any issues. Family members told us they thought staff were 'all good' and 'put themselves out' when needed.
