All Inspections

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We reviewed what the practice told us in their action plan to make sure that the issues which had concerned us had been addressed. We found that steps had been taken to ensure that people were treated with dignity and respect at all times; and that the practice had made additional arrangements to ensure they could respond appropriately to emergencies.

7 February 2014

During a routine inspection

On the day of the inspection we spoke with three people who used the service, the provider, three members of staff and looked at four treatment records. People who received treatment at the dental practice told us they were happy with the care they received. One person told us, 'It's very good; I've not had any bad experience of being in pain.' Another person told us, 'It's excellent.'

People told us they are always treated with dignity and respect. During our inspection, we saw that staff communicated with people in a professional and friendly manner. People who used the service told us that staff at the practice were always helpful. One person told us, 'They never, never rush during treatment'. We observed that the practice did not have adequate arrangements to ensure that people who were deaf, people who could not see or non-English speaking people, understood their treatment. We observed that the door to the treatment room was open during treatment and one person we spoke with told us, 'The door to the treatment room is always left open.'

All the dental staff we spoke with had a good understanding of the treatment process and what needed to happen during any treatment. Care and treatment was delivered in a way that ensured the safety and welfare of people. We observed that the practice did not have adequate arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies.

The practice was clean and tidy and there were systems in place to protect people from risks of infections. We saw that people experienced care and treatment that met their needs because they were cared for by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

We saw evidence that the provider regularly assessed and monitored the quality of service provision that people received.
